"Cousin Dan" Shot in 97 Estoria Parking Lot

Victim was headed to his car when two men fired at him, hitting him in the abdomen.

A man leaving the 97 Estoria bar was shot in the abdomen early Friday morning as he was entering his vehicle, Atlanta police said.

It's not immediately clear what sparked the shooting, which occurred around 3 a.m.

The victim is a local musician, Daniel Scoggins, who is known as "Cousin Dan."

Scoggins, who was taken to the Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment, was later released.

In an e-mail to East Atlanta Patch, he said he is fine, considering the circumstances.

Scoggins gave police the following account:

He left the Cabbagetown bar and was walked to his car parked in the lot when he saw two men walking on the opposite side of Estoria.

Suspecting something was wrong, he walked hurriedly to his car.

As he opened his driver's side door, one of the men allegedly shouted, "what's up with it," and one of them fired a gun at him three or four times. Three of the bullets struck his car and one hit him.

The victim managed to get into his car as the men fled on foot, and headed north on Estoria/Krog Street.

He described one man as being black 5'10" in height, with a medium build and last seen wearing a gray hoodie jacket and khaki pants. The second man, also black, is about 6'0" tall, with a large build and was last seen wearing a black hoodie.

Police said there were no cameras and no witnesses to the shooting.

A call to 97 Estoria was not immediately returned Friday morning.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call 911 or Atlanta Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477).

What the hell does "what's up with it" with it even mean? Does not even sound like they tried to rob him. Just some worthless thugs looking to mess somebody up. This is crazy. The gun violence is never ending.
I don't know how many times I used to walk home that late at night from Estoria. I don't do it anymore. Its just not worth it.

description of suspect is same as 99.999% of crimes in Atlanta. And people wonder why stereotypes and profiling exist? Probably because they are true!!!!!!

Never in my life have I seen a gun act violent. I don't think they can act at all for that matter...

The -real- issues are education, poverty and culture, not race.
Go to the grounds of any trailer park in Georgia and you will discover a -lovely- contingent of poor, illiterate, white meth-heads in illegal possession of firearms who regularly prey on their families and neighbors. The Patch editor himself is a black, educated, Frenchman. Last I checked he hadn't blasted anyone in the stomach...with a firearm...

Which had nothing to do with nothing, Sophist. Stop feeding the trolls.

We spotted her last night (Thursday) just before the storm hit and chased her down May to CliftonRead More then up to Glenwood, where we think she turned into that development under construction across from the school. The storm swept in, and we lost her ... she was clearly panicked. Been back on the hunt this morning with no sign. Please call or text us at 423-653-5636 if you spot her!!!
