Little Five Points Robber Identified

The man who was shot and killed early Saturday in Little Five Points has been identified as Sandy R. Ezzard, according to Atlanta police.

Ezzard, 36, was shot in the pre-dawn hours of June 22, when he tried to rob a group of people camped out overnight at the Wish Atlanta Boutique for a new line of basketball shoes.

Ezzard, according to witness statements, ordered the customers to “Give it up,” and not to move.

One of the people standing in line, a 31-year-old Warner Robins man, shot Ezzard in self-defense.

Ezzard ran away but collapsed a short distance later and died, despite resuscitation attempts by emergency medical personnel.

Meanwhile, police are looking at surveillance video of what appears to be a second shooter involved in the robbery.

"As in any criminal investigation, evidence is discovered throughout the process and thoroughly followed up on," Atlanta Police Sgt. Gregory Lyon said in a statement. "We are aware of the video and are taking the appropriate steps to follow up on it."

Ezzard, who lived in Old Fourth Ward, has a lengthy criminal record in Fulton County that goes back to at least 2005.

He was last arrested in February of this year on Valentine's Day on several charges including criminal trespass and making terrorist threats.

He was released on $7,000 bond on April 20.
