Gun-toting Man on Scooter Arrested Near Turner Field

SUMMERHILL — Scooters aren't usually the getaway mode of choice for gunmen, but such was the case Friday for one man alleged to have drawn a gun on another person following a fight.

Atlanta police were called to Georgia Avenue and Fraser Street following the incident and were told by several bystanders the suspected gunman fled on his scooter through several parking lots.

The officers began canvassing the area on foot and found the scooter in the 600 block of Reed Street.

The suspect, Randy Mitchell, was found hiding on the porch of the home.

Police found the gun — which turn out to have been stolen — on the porch, along with keys to the scooter. Police also reported the gun's ID number was scratched and tampered with.

Mitchell, who remains in the Fulton County Jail on $35,000 bond, is charged with:

  • 2 counts aggravated assault
  • possession of a firearm by convicted felon
  • possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
  • possession of a firearm with an altered identification number
  • theft by receiving a stolen gun
