A grenade found during the predawn hours Monday at downtown Atlanta’s Greyhound bus station resulted in the station being evacuated for more than hour.

"Apparently, the grenade fell out of a box that was being shipped to North Carolina, along with other miscellaneous items,” Atlanta police spokesman Greg Lyon said in an e-mail.

Nearby Forsyth Street was closed and trains on the nearby MARTA line were halted while SWAT teams investigated.

The grenade was determined to be ‘hollowed out” and safe. The passengers were allowed to return to the terminal around 6:20 a.m.
