Report: Abductors Threatened to Dismember Kidnapping Victim

Federal authorities said Thursday that the alleged kidnappers of a North Carolina man rescued Wednesday night in southeast Atlanta had threatened to torture and dismember him.

Several news outlets reported that five people: Jenna Paulin Martin, 21, Tiana Maynard, 20, Jevante Price, Michael Montreal Gooden, 21, and Clifton James Roberts, 19; have been charged in the kidnapping that resulted in 63-year-old Frank Arthur Janssen spending five nights held captive.

Janssen was rescued before midnight at the Forest Cove Apartments by an elite FBI hostage rescue team.

The five suspects are schedule to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerrilyn Brill on Thursday afternoon according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Federal authorities said the suspects had sent Janssen’s wife a photo of her husband tied up and had threatened to dismember him and return him to her in six boxes.

It was reported that Janssen’s kidnapping, which took place on Saturday in Wake Forest, N.C., was related to a high-ranking member of the ‘Bloods” gang. Kevin Melton is serving a life sentence in a North Carolina prison after being prosecuted by Janssen's daughter, who is an assistant district attorney in Wake County, N.C.

Melton was convicted in 2012 on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, which made him a violent habitual offender.

The AJC reported that Janssen's wife this week had received a series of threatening text messages from a phone in Georgia, including a text photo of her husband tied up.

After being rescued late Wednesday evening in southeast Atlanta, Janssen has been reunited with his family.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Frank Arthur Janssen was rescued before midnight at the Forest Cove Apartments by an elite FBI hostage rescue team.

WSB TV reported that police from Atlanta, Alpharetta, Cobb and agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation assisted in tracking Janssen to the complex on New Town Circle.

Janssen, a United States defense contractor working in missile defense, was reported missing from his Wake Forest, N.C., home on Saturday morning. His occupation was not believed to have been a factor in his kidnapping.

The motive about the kidnapping has not been revealed. This is a developing story, as the FBI has scheduled an 11 a.m. news conference today in Wake Forest to discuss the case.
