Prosecutors said the the incoming president and treasurer discovered the theft in March 2009 after finding a number of unpaid and missing payments to vendors. A subsequent probe found that Wood wrote checks to himself or made them out to cash and used the CNIA's debit card to pay for personal bills and social activities.

Some of the money Wood stole was earmarked for the neighborhood's Tornado Relief Fund.
