Elaborate Pick-Pocket Scheme Nets Crooks $300

The following police reports were filed March 21-28 by Zone 6 of the Atlanta Police Department and submitted to East Atlanta Patch. During this period, the zone filed 101 police reports. All information is presumed to be accurate. East Atlanta Patch is providing just a sampling of the incidents from this week in the following blotter.

Larceny - 1461 MORELAND AVE SE- Parking lot / Victim walked to the Wells Fargo ATM to withdraw $300. While walking back toward her vehicle she was approached by a short older male in his 50's with an African accent. The male handed her a greyhound card and asked her where he can find a red top motel. She handed the card to the witness who was the passenger in her vehicle and asked her if she's familiar with that particular motel. While searching for the address on her phone the suspect was very impatient. The male brushed up against her and flagged another male in his late 40s down for help. After the male brushed against her she patted her right pocket to see if her money was still there. The male that was flagged down by the suspect walked up to them, stating he was familiar with that hotel and will personally take the male suspect there. While driving to Kroger she reached in her pocket to take out her money and find several pieces of newspaper that was wrapped around a blue/white handkerchief.

Armed Robbery - 307 CANDLER RD SE- INSIDE-TITLEMAX-STRANGER/FIREARM/NO INJURIES: Business Manager (TITLEMAX) advised the Arrestee: Earnest Johnson, 43, entered the business holding a silver revolver and ordered him to open the cash drawer. Arrestee took $796 from the cash drawer and ran from the scene.

Aggravated Assault - 1572 HARDEE ST NE- Outside/Stranger/Gun (victim shot): The 15-year-old male victim reported that he was at the playground of the Edgewood Court Apartments during the filming of a rap video with the "Dinero Gang"  when male in a red Toyota drove past and shot him in the leg. Rashad Dowdy was with Gregory Hayes when he was shot. He said that he hangs out at Edgewood Court everyday but does not know anyone's names. He gave street names of the people who were with them.

Aggravated Assault - 358 CLIFFORD AVE NE- Outside/Stranger/Other Weapon: A tow truck driver for a repossession company was attempting to tow a vehicle when the owner jumped inside of the car and drove it off the tow truck lift gate.  The arrested female then struck the driver as she drove away. Suspect: MCGRATHS, CAROLINE. Female

Residential Burglary - 880 GLENWOOD AVE SE- Apartment/ Victim advised that when she returned home all doors and windows were locked and secure. There were no signs of forced entry at the residence. There was nothing taken or missing from the property. She stated that she thought someone had possibly come into her apartment and moved some of her items to prove that they could.

Larceny from Vehicle - 290 ORMOND ST SE- City street/ black 30GB iPod/ car was left unlocked and victim’s neighbor chased the suspects. When he returned to the scene he advised that a black male wearing a maroon hoodie and a black female with orange in her hair wearing flip flops were inside the victim’s car. He asked them if the car was theirs and they fled. Zone 3 Officers detained the male suspect at 394 Violet St SE (Arrestee: GRIER, TRAVIS DEMOND) ARREST MADE

Other Larcenies - 348 Boulevard SE- City Street/ Victim stated that she was walking down the sidewalk talking on her cell phone pushing her child’s stroller when the suspect ran up beside her and grabbed her Apple iPhone 4S then ran off.

Auto Theft - 1160 MORELAND AVE SE- ATTEMPT ONLY from Kroger parking lot. Victim observed 2 males inside of the vehicle and when she approached they exit the vehicle. One of the males got into a silver vehicle possible a Honda Civic with partial GA tag# PRN. One of the males left on foot. She stated that the driver side of the door was damaged and the steering column removed.
