DeKalb Police Seek Shadowridge Drive Killer

Victim was shot at four times.

DeKalb County police are still looking for the killer responsible for the Aug. 19 shooting death and ambush robbery of a man who responded to a Craigslist post about a mobile phone that was for sale.

The victim, Clarence Gardenhire, went to 800 block of Shadowridge Drive SE in unincorporated DeKalb County with his his son-in-law, who responded to the Craigslist advertisement.

Gardnehire, 60, accompanied his son-in-law out of safety concerns because they were meeting the person late at night — just before 11 p.m.

According to police, the two men got out of their vehicle and walked over to meet with the man from Craigslist who was waiting in his car.

He asked them if they were armed and when they told him they weren't, he pulled out a gun and told them to "give it up," according to the incident report, which was obtained by East Atlanta Patch.

Gardenhire may have reached into the vehicle to defend himself but the shooter fired four shots at him, striking him in the torso.

After firing, the gunman fled on foot. Garnenhire's son-in-law sought help from nearby residents. Gardenhire was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Anyone with information is asked to call DeKalb County Police homicide at 770.724.7850.
