Atlanta, Decatur Police Investigating Saturday Burglaries

Atlanta Police Zone 6 officers were called to investigate a pair of East Lake neighborhood incidents on Saturday afternoon.

The Decatur Police Department is investigating a Saturday afternoon burglary that may be connected to one that happened the same day in the East Lake neighborhood.

According to Decatur Police Sgt. Jennifer Ross, the burglary occurred between 2 and 4:45 p.m. in the 600 block of 2nd Avenue. In an email, she wrote, “It appeared the suspects used a vehicle to force a locked rear gate open and the rear door to the residence was then forced open. Numerous items were stolen throughout the house. A neighbor reported seeing a beige SUV, believed to be a Ford Explorer, occupied by two black males leaving the alley behind the victim’s residence at approximately 2:30 pm. The driver of the beige SUV was described as having a light complexion and wearing a red baseball cap.”

Atlanta Police Zone 6 officers were called to investigate a pair of East Lake incidents on Saturday, both that occurred between 1 and 3 p.m., on Tupelo Street and the 100 block of Second Avenue.

According to Sgt. Ross, “Based on the size of a television stolen, it is likely a SUV or truck was used. … The vehicle was described as a white SUV, possibly a Suburban or Tahoe, occupied by 3-4 black males.”

On Saturday, the East Lake Security Patrol sent residents an email that read, “(Zone 6 Commander Maj. Tim Peek) is in touch with Decatur Police and the DeKalb County South Precinct. It is possible the break-in below in Oakhurst and the one in East Lake on Tupelo Street are linked. There were also two attempted break-ins in East Lake. This all happened Saturday afternoon during the same time period. The East Lake Security Patrol is patrolling heavily in collaboration with Zone 6. Please call 911 if you see any suspicious vehicles and give a tag number/description if you can. Thanks.”
