UPDATED: Couple Robbed At Gunpoint On Freedom Parkway Path

Police searching for suspects. In separate case, woman robbed of her phone.

Atlanta police are looking for a pair of gunmen who robbed a couple on the Freedom Parkway Path near the 600 block of Highland Avenue in Old Fourth Ward Wednesday evening.

Hours later, in a separate incident in the 300 block of North Highland in neighboring Inman Park, a woman was knocked down in a strong-arm robbery.

In the Freedom Parkway Path incident, which occurred at 6:25 p.m. the victims told police they were walking on the bike path in Freedom Park, APD spokesman John Chafee told East Atlanta Patch.

While walking, two men approached them. They asked the victims for the time and pushed both to the ground, he said.

"The shorter male displayed a small handgun and they demanded money. The victims advised that they had no money and the suspects took the victims’ cell phones and house keys," Chafee said. "The suspects told the victims to get up and run away."

The gunmen were last seen running on the bike path toward Boulevard.

Chafee said the men are described as:

  • Suspect No. 1: black, 5'6", wearing a white shirt and dark jeans and long dreads.
  • Suspect No. 2: black, 6 feet tall, wearing a tan shirt, green army hoodie and green cargo pants.

The couple was not hurt.

In the second incident, which occurred at about 8:20 p.m., the woman's phone was taken, Greg Scott, public safety vice president of the Inman Park Neighborhood Association, said in a post to that neighborhood's listserv.

A red Nissan Sentra with a Fulton County partial license plate number of 0127 is the vehicle suspected in that strong-arm case.

"These definitely do not fit the usual MO we have seen over the past few months, so we need for everyone to be vigilant," Scott wrote in an e-mail to Patch. "Unfortunately, criminals take advantage of the nice weather as much as the rest of us.
