As part of the "" initiative, designed to clean up the Boulevard corridor in the Old Fourth Ward, the Atlanta Police Department, which plans to open a mini-precint on that street, is dedicating 12 officers to it exclusively.
"We began this increased patrol approximately 3 weeks ago," APD Zone 6 Maj. John Dalton told East Atlanta Patch. "We are going to open a precinct on Boulevard, but the officers are already working in the area."
The changes come as last month, which included the creation of two new beats in Old Fourth Ward: 603 and 604.
The 12 officers assigned to Boulevard aren't included in the count of beat officers assigned to 603 and 604.
"These officers and supervisors were added to the zone so there will not be any negative impact on the rest of the zone," Dalton said. "In fact, the bordering beats, Inman Park, Virginia-Highland, Cabagetown and Reynoldstown should benefit from the increased enforcement efforts on Boulevard."
