Atlanta Police Seeks Participants for Citizen Police Academy

The Atlanta Police Department is seeking participants for the Citizens Police Academy.

As the Department strives for transparency in its operations, the Citizens Police Academy provides a hands-on opportunity to educate the citizens of Atlanta on the operations of the Department while obtaining valuable feedback from citizens to enhance police and community relations.

The Citizens Police Academy will include over 30 hours of instruction taught in three-hour sessions. Participation requires a commitment of three hours, one night a week, for seven weeks. The training includes classroom courses in crime scenes, a department overview and a zone ride-a-long. Classes are held every Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., beginning Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013. Classes are held at the Herbert T. Jenkins Atlanta 
Police Academy, 180 Southside Industrial Parkway, Atlanta, Georgia 30354.
Interested citizens can apply by contacting Lt. J. Durant at the Atlanta Police Academy at 404.209.5250 or jdurant@atlantaga.gov. The deadline for application is Monday, Sept. 23,  2013.

Participants must be a resident of the metropolitan Atlanta area, be at least 21 years old and have no felony or misdemeanor convictions within one year of application. A standard background check will be completed.
