Atlanta Police Looking For Suspects In Series Of Scooter Thefts

In one incident, victim was strong-armed by five men

Atlanta police are investigating a series of thefts involving motorized scooters between July 18th and the 27th in Edgewood, Ormewood Park, Kirkwood and other intown neighborhoods

The most recent theft, which occurred at 10 p.m. on Parkway Drive in the Bedford Pines neighborhood, involved five men between 17 and 21 years of age. The robbers attacked and forced the victim off the scooter.

The other five incidents were burglaries occuring in apartment complex parking lots or driveways of homes, police said. Some of the stolen scooters were even chained.

"When possible, we recommend taking the scooters indoors as a preventative measure," Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos wrote in an e-mail. "As always, be aware of your surroundings while riding them and dial 911 to report any suspicious activity. Also, please be sure to record their serial numbers in the event an officer were to recover one or stop someone on a stolen scooter."
