Atlanta Police arrested a burglary suspect who led them on a foot chase across Highway 400 before running into an empty room at a nearby Buckhead hotel around noon.

Zone 2 officers responded to an audible alarm at a residence on Pinetree Road when they noticed a man riding on a bike. There were two burglaries reported this morning on Pinetree Road and Lenox Road. Police are investigating to find if the burglaries are related.

The biker began to run from police, leading them on a chase. The man then ran on foot across Highway 400 and into a room being cleaned at Country Inn Suites in Buckhead on Piedmont Road.

The Towne Place Suites hotel, located at 800 Sidney Marcus Boulevard, was evacuated shortly before noon after reports that an armed man had rushed into the hotel and locked himself in a second floor room.

A SWAT team that was called in once police noticed the suspect reach into his waistband as if he had a weapon, said Officer G. Lyon.

The Georgia State Patrol blocked the ramp from Georgia 400 southbound to Sidney Marcus.

Lyon said the suspect, who had locked himself in an empty hotel room, was in the hotel for less than an hour before authorities talked him out and arrested him.
