Suspect asked girl for ride; she declined and he began following her.

Atlanta police officials looking for a man involved in the attempted abduction of a 12-year-old Lake Claire girl who was walking home from her school bus stop March 12.

The girl who was walking near the intersection of Connecticut and New York avenues told police that around 4:10 p.m., a man in a silver SUV pulled up alongside her and asked if she needed a ride. She replied no and quickly walked away.

The man, described as being black, heavy-set and clean-shaven with a medium brown complexion, put the SUV in reverse and tried to follow her.

He drove away once other vehicles neared the intersection, police said.

The driver, believed to be in his early 30s and wearing a white tee shirt and baseball cap, may have been driving a Honda CRV, Toyota Rav-4 or Ford Escape.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404.577.TIPS (8477).
