Area Restaurants To Donate Money From Wednesday Sales For Injured Police Officer's Care

Alleged hit-and-run driver still at large

Four area restaurants are donating proceeds from their sales Wednesday toward fundraising efforts for the medical care of Atlanta Police Inv. Patrick Apoian, the Journal-Constitution reports.

Fox Bros. BBQ in Edgewood, Smith's Olde Bar and The Nook will donate 15 percent of all sales Wednesday. Avellino's Pizza in Decatur is contributing 20 percent of total sales for the day plus tips.

Apoian was injured last week in the Kirkwood neighborhood after being run over by a Decatur man during a traffic stop.

Police are still seeking the alleged driver, Khalif Edwards, whom they say is wanted on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, simple battery, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and cruelty to children in the third degree.

The altercation occurred Thursday night on College Avenue near Sisson Avenue.

Joseph Oriano, Apoian's brother-in-law, told the Journal-Constitution the officer, who suffered a broken leg and other injuries, continues to recover.

An account also has been established at Wells Fargo Bank Apoian and donations may be made at any branch location.

Other merchant fundraisers will be held at the , the newspaper said.
