APD Zone 6 To Get New Commander

John Dalton promoted to deputy chief; Maj. Keith Meadows to take over Zone 6.

Maj. John Dalton, the popular commander of Atlanta Police Department Zone 6, will become a deputy chief in charge of the agency's criminal investigation division.

Maj. Keith Meadows, who joined APD in 1986 and currently assigned to major crimes, will become Zone 6 commander, Valencia Hudson, public safety liaison for Atlanta City Councilwoman Natalyn Archibong, wrote in an e-mail.

The promotions are effective Feb. 16.

Zone 6 includes Kirkwood, Grant Park, East Atlanta and Reynoldstown, among other neighborhoods.

Dalton, who joined APD in 1987, became a major in 2007 assigned to command the Major Crimes Section. The year before, Dalton was named assistant zone commander and assigned to Zone 5.

Meadows, whose family owns in East Atlanta, was initially assigned to Zone 4 as a patrolman in Southwest Atlanta after graduating from the police academy. In 1996 — a year after being promoted to the rank of sergeant — he was assigned to the Homicide Unit. In 2010, he was promoted to the rank of major and assigned to the Major Crimes Section.

Congrats to Major Dalton. I wonder if the equally wonderful and talented Maj. Meadows - a major player, I seem to recall, in the "Hat Squad" - will keep his chapeaus!

Maj. Meadows, any reason why Zone 6 hasn't come to a GPNA meeting for 3-months running? Finley used to come all the time, or send an alternate. Please put this in your calendar:

Anjin-San I must apologize, I have only been in Zone Six for a month and I have been trying to make all of the community meetings. I am finding that is an extremely difficult task. I will make every effort to attend the next one, if I am unable I assure you Zone Six will be represented.

We spotted her last night (Thursday) just before the storm hit and chased her down May to CliftonRead More then up to Glenwood, where we think she turned into that development under construction across from the school. The storm swept in, and we lost her ... she was clearly panicked. Been back on the hunt this morning with no sign. Please call or text us at 423-653-5636 if you spot her!!!

This is a sales pitch, and not a very good one. This development is well over 2 miles from GrantRead More Park; even the map on the developer's site doesn't correctly show where the subdivision is. And where it is, is across Glenwood from Burgess-Peterson ES, where Glenwood is 4 lanes- good luck ever making a left out of there. But if you want to be able to hear I-20, I guess it's a great location.
