APD Investigating Carjacking Police Report Snafu

Police officer came to meet Reynoldstown victim, but did not take a report.

Atlanta Police Department officials are investigating why officers responding to a , did not take a police report regarding the incident.

Standard procedure in any crime is for officers to take a report, Maj. Keith Meadows, APD Zone 6 commander, told East Atlanta Patch.

But that didn't happen in the Reynoldstown incident, sparking a lengthy discussion on the neighborhood listserv about what happened and why.

"This was brought to my attention this morning. I directed one of my supervisors to send a day watch officer by her place of employment to take the report," Meadows said. “We are currently looking into why the officer did not take the report initially."

While the department is investigating what happened and interviewing all involved, Meadows said how the call came in initially to 911 may have been a factor.

The call came in as a fight and not a carjacking, he said. Two patrol cars responded to the call and it might have been that one officer thought the other took the report, Meadows said.
