Labor Union among Top Endorsers of Aaron Watson for Atlanta City Council Post 2 At-Large

Labor Union among Top Endorsers of Aaron Watson for Atlanta City Council Post 2 At-Large

The Atlanta North Georgia Labor Council AFL CIO has endorsed Atlanta City Councilmember Aaron Watson for a second term. Watson is the only candidate in the Post 2 At-Large race to receive the Union’s endorsement.
The Labor Council represents 87,000 union members across metropolitan Atlanta and joins other highly regarded organizations and city leaders that acknowledge Watson’s progressive leadership on the City Council. The organizations include the Committee for a Better Atlanta, Georgia Stonewall Democrats, Red Clay Democrats and Georgia Equality.
The Committee for a Better Atlanta, a coalition of Atlanta business leaders, rates Watson as “Excellent”—the highest rating— for the job as Post 2 At-Large Councilmember. He earned a score of 95, the highest of any councilmember running for office.
Georgia Stonewall Democrats endorsed Watson for his continued “strong support for expanded transportation and his knowledge of budgeting and finance.”
Councilmember Watson is seeking re-election to a second term to continue working hard for all Atlantans. During the last four years, Watson has been a strong supporter of police and fire fighters. He prioritized putting 800 police officers on the streets, voted for pay increases, new crime-fighting and firefighting technology and a new fire station. Watson also helped to reform Atlanta’s pension system. He co-sponsored legislation that helped to reduce the city’s $1.4 million pension liability, saving taxpayers nearly $20 million annually. This action has been applauded by employee organizations and major cities facing similar challenges. He also helped to reduce the city’s operating budget by more than $100 million.
“These endorsements and support speak loud and clear to what is important to the citizens of Atlanta,” Watson said. “They are a strong testament that citizens want a councilmember who is a solid leader and will fight for Atlanta’s families even during the toughest economic times. I am thankful and proud to have this level of support.”
Watson has also received endorsements from local leaders including U.S. Congressman John Lewis, U. S. Statesman Andy Young, State Senator Jason Carter, Fulton County Commissioners Emma Darnell and Joan Garner, former City Council President Cathy Woolard and former Atlanta First Lady Valerie Jackson.

Watson has opened two campaign offices. The Midtown Atlanta office is located at 44 12th Street, NE and the West End Campaign office is located at 843 Oak St. SW.
