Holiday Safety Tips - Part 1
If there is a time of year that criminals thrive, it’s the holiday season. With the parties and gifts being exchanged by family, friends and co-workers there are plenty of opportunities for thieves to take advantage of all the gifts.
These tips are not here to scare you. I only want you to be aware of what’s going on during the holidays that we hear about and don’t think about until it’s too late.
Top of the mind awareness can keep us safe.
When walking through the malls and other shopping areas it’s important to always pay attention to those around you. If you continue to see the same person or group of people more than 3 or four times and crowd flow isn’t forced in the same direction, chances are high that someone is following you.
Change directions when possible. Keeping you pattern unpredictable will help you in assessing whether or not you are being followed. And if you feel you are being followed or threatened find the nearest security guard or police officer.
Make Several Trips
Some of us like to get all of our Christmas gift shopping done in one or two places. After a day of shopping you can see a lot of people totting around dozens of bags stuffed with presents and other goodies.
If you can see it, thieves can see it too. Make several trips to the car to unload your gifts. It’s better to make several trips out to drop things off than to have all of them stolen from you.
While walking to the car look around to see if you’re being followed. More times than not the oblivious looking person is the one who becomes the target of the next robbery.
