i am long time resident of ormewood park(1977), spikes in crime are part of intown living. there are those of us that have had break-ins, been robbed, or been involved in other crimes as victims. a significant number of posts to OPCA often comment on incidents that may have already happened. some posts are looking for recommendations for items or services. we as OPCA members are very concerned about our safety, for ourselves, our significant others, our children, and the physical integrity of our homes. often we only re-act, and are not proactive. do we know who lives on our block? behind us? or across the street? do we watch unusual things happening and rationalize? or do we just complain about the state of affairs? The people that may be passing thru, cruising, may be profiled, and in some situations authorities are called to make them aware of these people. do we isolate ourselves because we don't like the way people may present themselves to us? even worse, are we over trusting? or lax in our daily routines? there many answers to these questions. in my opinion the most important is to PAY ATTENTION to our surroundings. it makes no difference to the law breaker who you are, where you are, what time it is, if they see a crime opportunity they take it. crooks use opportunity to take from us what we have worked to acquire. why should we let them? The POLICE and the TROLLEY PATROL help. for those that are away from home during the day . The TROLLEY PATROL is a viable option, it helps to reduce some of the crimes of opportunity. services are as good as we make them, the more we participate the better they become. quite often our plans do not always denote the outcome. If we we use our A.K(acquired knowledge), common sense, and make PAYING ATTENTION part of daily life style perhaps we as a community can limit the number of incidents that are on the increase.

i posted  this to OPCA, after re-reading, correcting  both spelling and most punctuation civic responsibily plus my ego  thought that perhaps some of my a.k. and opinions may benefit those that read the patch. daily information at this point is basically limited to the patch  plus individual neighborhood associations.  i knoe from experience that a lot of my original post to have valid ideas. as we navigate todays ever changing environment one pertinent actions is networkin. those that read this i urge tham to network with friends neighbors or in somes cases the person that's sitting next to at one the areas fine establishments. i hope that some will copy, forward, email, or for those that "pray to the screen" use an app. perhaps something in this stuff will help to motivate or remind. remember it's about PAYINGATTENTION!!!
