The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department's Station 13, here in East Atlanta, is hosting a fundraiser at the Aug. 25 to collect funds to help offset expenses stemming from an illness one of their own is battling.

A 20-year veteran of AFRD, Capt. Greg Wise went to the hospital for what he thought was appendicitis, Chris Chaffin, a co-worker and friend, told East Atlanta Patch.

It turned out to be cancer, Chaffin said.

"He's been on the job for over 20 years and we're trying to do a benefit to raise money because he was the main breadwinner for his family," Chaffin said. "He's a great guy and good with people. He's a people person."
