EcoDepot Recycling is Today at Turner Field

Today  is EcoDepot Recycling Day.

Sponsored by the office of District 1 Atlanta City Councilwoman Carla Smith, the recycling will take place at the orange lot of Turner Field from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Electronics account for up to five percent of landfill volume and contribute up to 70 percent of the toxins found in landfills because every year newer and better products are being sold to consumers.

The goal of electronic waste recycling is to promote the recovery, reuse, and recycling of obsolete electronic equipment and to encourage the design, manufacture, and purchase of environmentally responsible electronic equipment.

The following items will be accepted at the city of Atlanta’s EcoDepot Recycling Day:

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE

• Lightbulbs: mercury and fluorescent
• Batteries: alkaline, dry cell, ni-cad, lead acid
• Aerosols
• Propane Cyclinders
• Oil-based paints and related materials
• Cooking Grease
• Prescription Drugs and OTC meds
• Pesticides, herbicides
• Motor oil, antifreeze and fuel

ELECTRONICS

• Computer CPUs, laptops, monitors, disk drives, floppy drives, keyboards, modems, circuit boards
• Printers, fax machines, typewriters
• Televisions (fee required)
• Microwave ovens
• Stereos, speakers
• Telephones, cell phones
• Copiers, scanners CB radios and portable radios
• Video Machines
• Cameras, camcorders CDs, VCRs and DVD players and record players
• Test and networking equipment
• Electrical Panels UPS/Battery Back-up CD ROMs
• Projectors
• Cables and computer mouses

The following items WILL NOT be accepted:

• consoles (tv cabinets)
• projection televisions
• vacuum cleaners
• refrigerators
• washers and dryers
• freezers
• de-humidifiers or humidifiers
• gas-powered equipment
• household trash and NON-electronic equipment.
