When the Civil War began, the country wasn't the only thing being torn apart. Families - husbands and wives; brothers and sisters; mothers and fathers and chlidren; and friends were being ripped one from the other. War casualties would make many of those separations permanent. After the war, loved ones began the long, difficult process of finding those from whom thy had been separated. Wench author Dolen Perkins-Valdez's new research focuses on the people, and women in particular, who survived the war, and their efforts to reestablish the ties of love that bound them.
