Atlanta Alumnae Deltas Present Celebration of Women 2014

Celebration of Women, the annual signature luncheon for the Atlanta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 11:30 A.M. at the Renaissance Concourse Atlanta Airport Hotel, One Hartsfield Centre Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30354.  This fundraising affair will benefit scholarship recipients and provide funding for the organization’s Betty Shabazz Academy, the Delta GEMS, and the EMBODI project (for young men).  The celebration pays tribute to women who are “Empowered Leaders Impacting the Global Community” and is the platform for the presentation of scholarships and awards.
 
Dr. Paulette Walker, National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will be the featured speaker. “Saluting Exemplary Service” is the theme for the Celebration of Women 2014 fete which is expected to fill the ballroom with women and men who want to be a part of this commemorative occasion. 

The Celebration of Women will honor women who have made an impact in the focal points of the sorority’s national programs, including Economic Development, Educational Development, International Involvement and Awareness, Physical and Mental Health, Political Awareness and Involvement, Social Action, and Arts and Letters.  The coveted Fortitude Award will be given to Ms. Sybrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin, Ms. Lucy McBath, mother of Jordan Davis, and  Christy Tucker Sims, victim of domestic violence (facial acid burn).  The Trailblazer Award goes to Erica Qualls, general manager of the Marriott Marquis Hotel (Atlanta, Ga). The Delta Chapter Torch Awards will also be given to women who have excelled in leadership roles throughout metropolitan Atlanta: Jamese Beauford, Brooke Jackson Edmond,  Debra Harris,  Jan Jackson, Darlene Kimes, Bernese Meyer,  Betty Neal, and Rogsbert Phillips-Reed, M.D.

“The Atlanta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta has delivered effective and dedicated services since we were chartered in 1924,” said Carol Carter, president of the Atlanta Alumnae Chapter.  “Records from our archives indicate that over one-million dollars have been given in scholarships over
the years, in increments of $500 to $5,000,” she added.   Scholarship awards will be presented to students, both young men and women, from the Atlanta Public Schools.

Tickets for the Celebration of Women fundraising program can be purchased at $70 each.  The event, co-chaired by Carolyn Young and Annease Jones, will enlighten, inspire, uplift, and empower by noting the accomplishments of stellar women in the community of the program, “To say that Atlanta
Alumnae Deltas are excited about this special event is putting it mildly.  This is a time when we, as sisters in the spirit, pause to say thank you and pay homage to these very powerful and revered women,” says Ms. Jones, co-chairperson of Celebration of Women committee.
