Water Main Break Shuts Down Portion of Auburn Avenue

A water main breaks in front of Big Bethel AME on Auburn Avenue

DOWNTOWN — Police, firefighters, and water crews attempted to fix a large water main break Saturday afternoon on Auburn Avenue near Big Bethel AME.  Water gushed down Auburn Avenue, forcing police to divert traffic and place sandbags in-front of local businesses in the area.

According to WSB, the affected area is a site associated with the Atlanta Streetcar Project initiative.

Witnesses described a smell of gas in the air, as firefighters investigated a possible break in the gas line as well.

This is the second time in less than a month that residents in the area are dealing with a water main break. In neighboring Inman Park, there have been reports of homes being affected.
