UPDATED: School Board Candidates Meet Grady, Jackson High School Cluster Parents

INMAN PARK — The Inman Park Neighborhood Association hosted a candidates' forum with Atlanta Public Schools District 1 and 3 contenders who answered questions from parents and present their platforms.

District 1, a seat held by Brenda Muhammad, includes Grant Park, Ormewood Park, Peoplestown and Summerhill. Muhammad is vying to keep her seat against Leslie Grant, a Grant Park mom and businesswoman.

District 3, which includes Edgewood, Kirkwood, East Lake and Lake Claire, is currently held by Cecily Harsch-Kinnane, who is not seeking another term.

Matt Westmoreland, Atlanta Public Schools teacher and Grady High School graduate, is running unopposed, thus far.

Residents asked about the school budgets and priorities and the controversial charter school drive in and the candidates' philosophy with respect to them.

They also asked the candidates about overcrowding and capacity issues in the Grady High School cluster, which draws students from Inman Park, Candler Park and Old Fourth Ward.

The cluster's middle school, Inman, also is overcrowded and parents at both schools have been clamoring for a comprehensive action plan from APS for years.
