Five Things You Need to Know

Several neighborhood planning unit meetings scheduled for this week

Atlanta is divided into twenty-five Neighborhood Planning Units or NPUs, which are citizen advisory councils that make recommendations to the mayor and city council on zoning, land use, and other planning issues.

  • NPU-O, which includes the East Lake, Edgewood, Kirkwood and Villages at East Lake neighborhoods, meets tonight at 7:30 at the Branham Recreation Center, 2051 Delano Dr., NE. Among the items on the agenda, a vote on a beer and wine permit application by Sada Walker for AEB Food Mart at 154 Whitefoord Ave., SE.
  • On Wednesday, NPU-W, which includes Grant Park, Ormewood Park, East Atlanta Villge, Ormewood Park, Benteen Park, Boulevard Heights- Custer/McDonough/Guice and Woodland Hills, meets at 7:30 p.m. at , 468 Moreland Ave. SE. The agenda topics include: Discussion of propsed Atlanta City Council legislation that would chnge existing laws regarding farmers markets and a property rezoning request to construct one new two story singe family home at 631 Glenwood Place.
  • On Thursday, NPU-N, which includes Poncey-Hiland, Inman Park, Candler Park, Lake Claire, Cabbagetown, Reynoldstown and Druid Hils, meets at 7 p.m. at the Little Five Points Community Center 1083 Austin Ave. Ont the agenda: the Sweetwater 420 Festival and a variance request from certain yard setback requirements to allow for the construction of a two-story, single family home at 1848 Marlboro Dr.

Other Patchworthy events of note:

  • On Saturday, Georgia State University's men's basketball team hosts George Mason at 6 p.m. GSU students are admitted free to all regular season home games, but must have a valid Panthercard to gain admission to the Sports Arena. Students may purchase companion tickets for $5 at the GSU Box Office M-F 9am-5pm and up to halftime on the day of the game. Otherwise tickets are $14.85-$39.50.
  • Kirkwood Feed and Seed is hosting a low-cost vaccination clinic for pets from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at 1998 Hosea L Williams Dr. SE. No appointments are necessary and there will be no exam fees. Animal Health Services is providing the vaccines.
