UPDATED: Baby Dies in BB Gun Incident; Father Charged with Murder

Police: Baby was shot in the chest.

PEOPLESTOWN — The father of an 18-month-old boy toddler was arrested on murder charges Friday after a BB gun incident that resulted in the child's death.

Jesse L. Sellers, 23, also is charged with cruelty to children in the second degree, in addition to felony murder.

Police received a telephone call at 9:15 a.m. about a child shot with a BB gun at an apartment complex in the 1000 block of Hank Aaron Drive SW, just off Boynton Avenue SE, department spokeswoman Kim Jones wrote in an e-mail.

"Units arrived and were able to confirm an 18-month old male received injuries to his chest area that required transport by medical personnel to Grady hospital," she wrote.

"The injuries ultimately proved to be fatal. Homicide investigators arrived on scene and began to interview witnesses."

Six people, including three children, were in the apartment when the shooting occurred, she said, adding investigators' focused on the child's father.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office will investigate further to determine the exact cause of death, Jones said.
