Atlanta police arrest some Occupy protesters near Georgia State University

Atlanta police arrested eight people linked to Occupy Atlanta Thursday as they marched to the state Capitol after they blocked a portion of Courtland Street to vehicular traffic.

"Our mission is to show the world that you can evict a park but you can't evict an idea," CBS Atlanta quoted Occupy Atlanta organizer Tim Franzen as saying. "This is an idea and it's global."

In a statement, Atlanta Police Department spokesman Carlos Campos said the protesters were warned to get out of the street before officers began arresting them.

"Officers then moved in and arrested 6 men and 2 women," Campos wrote in his statement. "Those arrested were charged with a city ordinance of Obstructing Traffic and transported to Atlanta City Detention Center."

For more than a month, protesters have been making their prescence felt, mainly Downtown at Woodruff Park. But the Occupy Atlanta has led protest marches in Midtown and Buckhead and taken over green space in the Old Fourth Ward.

Unlike some of the other Occupy movements across the country that have been marred by some violent crimes, the Atlanta protest has been relatively free of some of those issues.

And while the movement sprang from a desire to change what members say is corruption in Washington and greed on Wall Street, Many on the side lines say the Occupy movement hasn't presented any concrete plan as to how to go about making those changes.
