ATLANTA – Fifth Third Bank (Georgia) recently wrapped up its two week-long Strike Out Hunger! campaign, which will help feed Atlanta-area families in need with nearly 1,000 pounds of non-perishable food items. The bank went to bat with three local baseball teams – the Augusta GreenJackets, the Gwinnett Braves and the Kennesaw State University Owls – and provided baseball game tickets to those who made a contribution to the food drive, courtesy of this year’s generous partners.

“We’re proud of our community and their generous participation in our annual Strike Out Hunger! food drive,” said Randy Koporc, president of Fifth Third Bank (Georgia). “With the help of our area partners – the Augusta GreenJackets, Gwinnett Braves, Kennesaw State University, the Atlanta Community Food Bank and the Golden Harvest Food Bank – we are able to help feed thousands of families in our local communities who otherwise would go hungry.”

The food drive ran from April 18 to May 3, coming to a close on Fifth Third’s annual “Fifth Third Day” celebration. For more than 20 years, the bank has used its 5/3 calendar holiday to recognize the contribution of its employees, thank its customers and support communities where it operates. After the food drive, Fifth Third delivered all donations to the Atlanta Community Food Bank and the Golden Harvest Food Bank, which will feed thousands of families.

“Due to the current economic climate, the Atlanta Community Food Bank has seen a continuous need for food in our local area,” said Bill Bolling, Founder and Executive Director of the Atlanta Community Food Bank. “With the help of Fifth Third, we have enough non-perishable food items to feed thousands of families in the Atlanta area. We are grateful for the bank’s commitment to encouraging local residents to donate food for a worthwhile cause.”

Fifth Third Bank collected food at all 32 financial centers in the following counties: Columbia, Richmond, Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Walton, and Cobb. For more information about Fifth Third Bank, please visit 53.com.
