Sweet Auburn Curb Market To Get $1.5 Million Renovation

Project, funded by Stimulus Package and HUD money, to create 40 to 50 direct jobs

Sweet Auburn Curb Market is getting a $1.5 million facelift.

The 87-year-old historic market will upgrade its exterior, refurbish and upgrade its heating and air conditioning systems and make other improvements, Pamela Joiner, market manager told East Atlanta Patch.

Sweet Auburn Curb market is making those improvements using a $789,000 grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and another $711,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Joiner said.

On Thursday, the Municipal Market Co., which operates the 50,000-square-foot facility, issued a Request For Proposal, seeking general contractors to bid on the project.

Contractors must submit their bids to Joiner by 2 p.m. on March 28.

The project is expected to create 40 to 50 direct jobs, she said.

Bidders with questions will be given more information at a pre-bid conference scheduled for 11 a.m. on March 21 in the Board Room of Central Atlanta Progress at 50 Hurt Plaza.

Once awarded — Joiner aniticipates the winning bid will be selected by the end of April — the project is expected to be complete by the end of September.
