Night Lights, Hoover Vacuums Recalled

Short circuits create risk of fire

American Tack & Hardware Co. Inc. is recalling 261,000 LED Night Lights because of an electrical short circuit that can cause them to overheat, leading to burns or fires.

The Saddle River, N.J.-based company said it received 18 reports of incidents, including three minor property damage claims and one minor burn injury.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which issued the recall with AmerTac, said the night lights were sold at hardware stores, lighting showrooms and home centers nationwide between March 2009 and January 2011 for about $7.

The three kinds of night lights being recalled are: model numbers 71193, 71194 and 327879. Only those with KML molded on the back are being recalled. All three models have the KML, ETL, the AmerTac logo and the model number molded on the back of the night lights' plastic housing.

Consumers should unplug the night lights immediately and call the company at 1-800-420-7511 for a full refund. You can see images of the products here.

Hoover Inc., of Glenwillow, Ohio, is recalling 142,000 of it WindTunnel Bagless Canister Vacuums because of fire and shock risks, the CPSC said.

The power cord can short circuit and create a fire or danger of shock even if the vacuum is turned off but left plugged in.

Hoover said it received 69 complaints of including one report of a minor injury, one of fire and smoke damage and two calls of carpet damage.

The recalled vacuums were sold at national retailers and vacuum retailers between March 2003 and December 2008 for $250 to $280.

They have model number S3755. The vacuum is silver and black in color, and comes with a power nozzle. The model number can be found on a label on the bottom of the canister.
