NHTSA issues product recall alerts
Certain GM vehicles recalled for safety belt concerns; some Volkswagen vehicles recalled for increased fire risk from chaffing
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Office of Defects Investigation issued the following product recall alerts Dec. 20:
GENERAL MOTORS:
Model Year 2011: Cadillac SRX, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain.

Problem: The driver's side and/or passenger's side safety buckle could fracture and seperate near the seat attachments in a crash and may increase the risk of injury in an accident.

Model Year(s) 2009: Jetta Sportwagen
2006-2010: Jetta, New Beetle, New Beetle Convertible
2007-2009: Rabbit
Problem: The cars could have a small plastic tab on the windshield washer fluid reservoir or a a fastening clamp on a hydraulic hose of the power steering system that could cause chaffing. Chaffing could lead to fuel leaks, increasing the risk of fire.
