In Georgia, initial claims were down August to September in construction, administrative and support services, retail trade, professional, scientific and technical services and health care and social assistance.

The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) announced on Thursday that first-time claims for unemployment insurance (UI) benefits in metro Atlanta were down 4.8 percent from August to September.

The number of laid-off workers filing first-time claims in the metro area dropped from 17,563 to 16,717 during that stretch.

Across the state, GDOL indicated that 34,293 laid-off workers filed first-time claims for UI benefits in September, down by 1,210, or 3.4 percent, from August when 35,503 claims were filed. The last time initial claims were below this level was in September 2007, when 32,139 were recorded.
