Celebrating Atlanta Beer Week One Brew at a Time

Wrecking Bar does its part to raise a glass.

by Mary Fiorello

October 20-27 is Atlanta Beer Week so we at the Wrecking Bar are excited to collaborate with other local beer lovers.

Last night, Nick Purdy of Wild Heaven Beer and the Wrecking Bar's Bob Sandage tapped a keg of their collaboration called "Wrecking Heaven."

This a smoked Polish wheat style, using about 90 percent Oak Smoked Wheat malt from Weyermann. About 4.5 percent alcohol by volume, it was a style that mostly died out around the turn of the 20th century, but has been revived in the last decade.

This is a collaboration to promote Georgia brewers and the Georgia Craft Brewers Guild. Other collaborations include Terrapin and Moon River Brewing and Twain's and SweetWater Brewing.

Today, we release another collaboration brew, this one "The L5 Project Imperial Porter," which was brewed with Nick Rutherford from the Porter Beer Bar.  We have distribution now, so this beer also will be served at the Porter starting next Friday, Oct. 26.  This is a Baltic Porter style that has so much going on, lots of dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, and just clean and delicious. And fairly dangerous at 8.7 percent alcohol by volume.
