Unlocking A Pandora's Box Of Imagination

Two Ukrainian artists come to East Atlanta Village and create a mural for the Living Walls project.

You may have noticed the new mural on Flat Shoals Avenue near the southeast intersection of Metropolitan Avenue that went up earlier this month.

Designed and painted by two Ukrainian artists — Aec and Waone — the mural is part of the "Living Walls Atlanta" project.

The Living Walls series — other projects can be found in Edgewood, Kirkwood and Old Fourth Ward — is part of the art community's efforts to create enduring works for the public, using prominent walls as artists' canvases.

Aec and Waone, who paint under the name "Interesni Kazki" are well known not only in the Ukraine but also throughout Eastern Europe, where they've built a following for their style of street artworks.

It caught our eye because it has an otherworldly feel to it and reminded us of one of our favorite artists, René Magritte.
