UPDATED: Woman Shot in the Head in Grant Park; Boyfriend Charged

Charges include aggravated assault.

Updated 9:33 a.m.: The victim's boyfriend, Jason Thompson, 34, was placed under arrest and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

GRANT PARK — Atlanta police report that a woman was shot in the head Tuesday afternoon in the 400 block of Bryan Street SE between Cherokee and Loomis avenues just before 4 p.m.

"She is semi-alert, breathing and conscious," APD spokesman Officer John Chafee said.

She was transported to Grady Hospital where she is in stable condition, Chafee said.

"The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim and her boyfriend were inside a home on Bryan Street when the shooting occurred," Chafee said in a statement.

"At this time investigators are speaking with the boyfriend as part of the investigation. Whether the shooting was intentional and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation."

He said it's too early to say whether or not the boyfriend is a suspect.

"It's too early right now," he said. "Investigators have to gather more information on what occurred."
