Volunteers Needed: East Lake Community Garden Build, Coan Middle Tutoring

Help out your East Atlanta Patch communities by donating your time, energy or resources to make your neighborhood an even better place.

Want to do something worthwhile with your free time? Did you make a New Year's resolution to give back to your community? Here are opportunities for you to make a difference in East Atlanta:

East Lake Community Garden Build on Feb. 16: There are still five spots left for volunteers to join in on this day of beautification for the grounds of the community garden and the urban farm, which needs 75 raised beds. Get more details or sign up here.

Become a math or writing tutor for Coan Middle School students. Communities in Schools of Atlanta is looking for volunteer math tutors for sixth graders from 2:15-3:30 p.m. on school days and volunteer math and writing tutors for seventh graders 8:55-10 a.m. on school days. Details here.

Discovery Program at Intown Academy: Two more volunteers are needed for the Discovery Program, volunteer-led Saturday morning (9:30 a.m. to noon) tutoring program that offers one-on-one and small group enrichment activities for children. Get details and sign up here.

Handy with Websites? Communities in Schools of Atlanta need a volunteer to help maintain its website and help manage image files and prepare them for publishing on the CIS of Atlanta website. A familiarity with image files, formats, and properties is desired.  Specific web design and/or web maintenance skills are not required. Commitment of about two to five hours each week; three to six month commitment preferred. Details.

The Atlanta Local Organizing Committee (ALOC) is seeking more than 2,000 volunteers to help with the 2013 NCAA® Men’s Final Four® Tournament. Volunteers will help in various ways like greeting guests at Atlanta hotels or assisting with youth and community events that are expected to draw thousands of locals and visitors from April 5 – 8. Potential volunteers will find all of the opportunities listed here with descriptions, photos from previous Final Four tournaments and videos.  Early registration is recommended as selection of volunteer opportunities is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Adopt a Senior this Valentine's Day! E CUBED, a Christian service organization, is hosting a Valentine’s party and giving 600 gift bags to seniors at Northeast Atlanta Health and Rehabilitation Center, 1500 S. Johnson Ferry Road in Atlanta and three other nursing homes in Metro Atlanta. Volunteers are needed to assemble and hand out the gift bags to seniors on Feb. 17. If you can't volunteer, you can still donate $20 per gift bag or desserts, snacks and drinks. The proceeds from this event will support E CUBED International.
