Turner Field: 'Permanence is Merely an Illusion'

by Nathan W. Kotas and Diana Kotas

SUMMERHILL — Eastern thought reminds us that the idea of permanence is merely an illusion.

On Nov. 11, the Atlanta Braves announced the team was leaving Turner Field for a new stadium in Cobb County at the end of the 2016 season. Plans call for the structure built for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games to be torn down. So on Nov. 12, we tried capturing the first rays of dawn to envelope the Ted since its destiny was made public.

As we tried photographing this expansive building, an elderly lady walking along the Georgia Avenue sidewalk paused, looked towards the stadium and lamented, “Y’all can’t move, makes me start cryin’.”

Mr. and Mrs. Kotas, who live in Ormewood Park, are photographers and the owners of the Ormewood Park-based Ormewood Studios.
