Reward for Grant Park Shooting Information Now Over $4,000

Grant Park residents have raised more than $2,700 in donations toward a reward to help capture the killer or killers of David McReynolds, who was shot dead .

The David McReynolds Memorial Crime Stoppers Reward Fund, established on Fundly.com, the crowdfunding social media site, is on top of the $2,000 being offered by Crime Stoppers Atlanta. It includes the $500 the Grant Park Neighborhood Association added to it last week.

All told, about $4,000 has been raised so far to bring justice to the 54-year-old McReynolds, a fixture in the neighborhood. The Fundly.com fundraiser has a goal of collecting $3,500 toward the cause.

In addition, Grant Park resident Don Wallace of CBS Outdoor is donating billboard space to Crime Stoppers Atlanta to publicize the crime and the reward.

"We are in the initial stages of putting artwork together and don’t have specific locations yet. The plan is to post several billboard posters within a 2- to 3-mile radius of the site of the murder starting around Sept. 10," Wallace said.

"I want to do something because it happened blocks from our house, and it is disturbing that it happened in our neighborhood in broad daylight to a man who by all accounts was just walking from the store. Also, CBS already has a relationship with the Atlanta Police Foundation and Crime Stoppers, so it makes sense to help out."

McReynolds was found on the sidewalk in front of 799 Hill St. with an apparent bullet wound to his chest. His family and friends believe he may have been targeted because he won some money in a Georgia Lottery scratch-off game.

Atlanta police, who released a video of three people to whom they wish to speak in connection with the shooting, plan to canvass the neighborhood Aug. 30 in the hope of obtaining new clues.

The neighborhood and its residents have been vigilant in keeping the shooting at the forefront to prevent it from being forgotten and to bring justice to McReynolds' memory.

"The reason that everyone has rallied around him is because we are a fantastic neighborhood that likes to look out for our own and we simply want these bastards who did this caught and brought to justice," Rob Smith, who contributed  $1,500 toward the reward fund, told East Atlanta Patch.

"I'm hoping money talks on a couple of different levels: I trust that if I can make a large donation, others will feel compelled to donate more; and I certainly would love to see this pot of money grow to a point beyond that which a thief could have gained from stealing someone's scratch off tickets and would entice a whistleblower to come out of the woodwork."

If McReynolds' killers aren't caught, they'll feel emboldened to continue their reign of terror until they are caught, he said.

"There is no sum of money that can bring back a human life — or two, or three, or more," Smith said.

"They must be stopped and if it takes money, then I'll empty my pockets until these people are brought to justice."
