PATCH VOICES: Delta Park, Triangle Park Sidewalks Need Help

A work order in the Parks Department for replacing the sidewalks at these two parks has been on the books since 2007, but they have only received "medium priority status" because the city hasn't received many complaints about them.

Editor's note: Atlanta began a comprehensive plan this year to find and repair a slew of broken sidewalks across the city and avoid lawsuit payouts from slip-and-falls. Inman Park residents have been waiting six years for repairs at its pocket green spaces, Delta Park and Triangle Park.

INMAN PARK — If you haven't noticed by now, the sidewalks around Delta Park and Triangle Park at Edgewood, Euclid, and Delta Place are in horrible condition. These sidewalks are heavily traveled not only by Inman Parkers, but also by the thousands of visitors each year for Festival. The city of Atlanta has recently settled several lawsuits related to injuries cause by hazardous sidewalk conditions so it would make so much economic sense for them to repair these sidewalks before someone else gets hurt and sues them again.

The city of Atlanta is making a concerted effort to repair sidewalks in public areas, particularly around the city parks, according to Richard Mendoza, Commissioner of Public Works. A work order in the Parks Department for replacing the sidewalks at these two parks has been on the books for completion since 2007, but they have only received "medium priority status" due to the fact that they have not received many complaints about these sidewalks.

It was recommended that we file complaints which will bring the status up to "high priority", increasing our chances that something will be done about them.

So, here is what anyone who has a few moments can do to possibly expedite these sidewalk repairs:

1) Send an email to Fred Cartwright in the Atlanta Parks dept. at wcartwright@atlantaga.gov telling him about your concerns related to the the dangerous conditions of the sidewalks on the North side of Triangle Park on Euclid Ave between Edgewood Ave. and Delta Place, the east side of Triangle Park on Delta Place between Euclid and Edgewood Ave., the north side of Delta Park on Edgewood Ave. between Delta Place and Delta Place, and the two sidewalks bordering Delta Park on the east and west sides both on Delta Place. It is important to be this specific.

2) Go to this website http://www.atlantaga.gov/index.aspx?page=260 and fill out the "Park Quality Control Inspection form" specifically focusing on the sidewalks and email it to parkscustomerservice@atlantaga.gov and also send a copy to Ayanna Williams at Park Pride at ayanna@parkpride.org.

If you take action of this, please send me a copy (danny@smallcarpenters.com) so we can have a record of our complaints. You never know what the squeaky wheel may produce, but I am hopeful we can have an impact on getting some action of this.
