Today's the day that's to end all days — Dec. 21, 2012.
According to some interpretations of Maya culture, if their calendar is to be believed, this is it for planet Earth.
Of course, some places in East Atlanta Patch are having End of Days parties to mark the occaision:
- Augustine's, 327 Memorial Drive: ESCHATON -noun 1- End of days, climax of history, last 2- A delicious Belgian-style quadruple ale from
Wild Heaven Craft Beers in Decatur. Come join us as we watch for the horsemen! We'll be pairing Wild Heaven's Eschaton with some great pecan/eschaton ice cream from Frozen Pints. (It tastes like The Rapture)
Come early, supplies are limited and apparently the clock is ticking! (5 p.m.)
- Lake Claire Community Land Trust, 280 Arizona Ave. NE: The Mayan Tzolk’in calendar, 13th B'ak'tun, ends on Dec. 21, 2012, the Winter Solstice. It is not the end of the world, but rather a new beginning. Experience the dawn of the new era, the 14th B’ak’tun, at an authentic Mayan Fire Ceremony led by Native American Shaman Sylina “Two Bears” Buehne, Ph.D. Sylina (who is Creek & Cherokee) spent 2 years with the Mayan elders in Guatemala studying ancient Mayan astrology, learning the long count & mastering many sacred Mayan ceremonies & shamanic techniques. (8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.)
- Asylum East Atlanta 543 Flat Shoals Ave. SE: THE END OF THE WORLD METAL APOCALYPSE starts at 10 p.m. We have four great metal bands: The Casket Creatures, BONZ, The Role and Burden Of Vision. $7 cover for 21yo+ and $10 for 18yo+ — Join us for the countdown to 11:11 p.m. That's the moment when...who knows?
