Inman Park's Springvale Park Playground Committee To Host Fundraiser

Proceeds to go to $100K playground project.

The Springvale Park Playground Committee is hosting "Playground Palooza" Sept. 21 to raise money toward the new Springvale Park children's playground.

The new play area, with a construction start date of spring 2013, is expected to cost about $100,000, committee members Amy Higgins and Eric Goldberg said at the Aug. 15 meeting of the Inman Park Neighborhood Association.

The committee has received roughly 75 percent of that amount in donations and commitments, leaving it with just $25,000 needed to reach its goal.

So Playground Palooza is one effort to raise those remaining funds.

The project is part of a larger master plan for Springvale Park, which dates back to the 1890s.

The park is bounded by Edgewood and Waverly avenues to the south, west and north, and abuts homes on Elizabeth Street to the east.

The playground efforts include replacing playground equipment and a redesign for more efficient use of the space.

The Sept. 21 fundraiser, which will be held at the Wrecking Bar's Biergarten event space at 6 p.m., is to feature three bands, including Atlanta's own Squirrelheads, whose style is an homage to New Oreans' rich musical legacy.

Playground Palooza also will feature a silent auction and while food will be provided, it is a cash bar.

If you go: Playground Palooza is scheduled for Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. in the Biergarten of the Wrecking Bar, 292 Moreland Ave. Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 at the door for same-day purchases. Call Eric Goldberg at 678.467.2096 or e-mail him at ericgold@mindspring.com.
