Why go: Little Five Points Community Day is a chance to see what’s going on and get in on performances that will include: Tai Chi, singing, dance and meditation. There will also be a legal clinic, talks about community activism and an all-day kid’s program.

Why go: This is a weekly program is for teens that are working towards cultivating leadership abilities and personal development. Some of the things the teens will work on include: artistic expression, service to community, learning things like public speaking and safety and protection skills.

CLEAN UP THE NEIGHBORHOOD WITH YOUR KIDS
Where/When: Krog St., NE & DeKalb Ave., SE, Atlanta, Saturday, September 17, 9 a.m.
Why go: This corner in the community is a familiar spot to those who both travel and live in this part of town. Organizers say that even if you cannot come for the whole morning, even an hour of your time will make a difference. Bring the tools needed to get this job done, if you can: gloves, trash bags, wheel barrels, rakes, shovels and pruners. (Don’t forget to your own water and the willingness to work, either.)

IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO SEE A MOVIE IN THE PARK
Where/When: Candler Park, 1500 McLendon Ave., NE, Atlanta, Saturday, September 17, movie starts at dusk
Why go: Candler Park has been showing movies all summer long, but this is the last one, so pack up the kids and a picnic and get over there! This month’s movie is “The Karate Kid” and the fun is happening in front of the pool house in the park.

Where/When: Hapeville’s Jess Lucas Park, 680 Central Ave., Hapeville, Friday, September 16, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday, September 17, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Why go: Take your children over to Hapeville (it’s not that far!) to kick off the Friday Night Downtown Live concert series. This week’s musicians include Jimmy Lovern and Darwin Conort. Saturday, there will be a festival with arts and crafts (free) for the kids and even more live music.
