Family-Friendly Bets

When/Where: Saturday from 8:00am to 2:00pm in and surrounding streets in East Atlanta.
Why Go:  This 8th annual bike rally benefiting the East Atlanta Kids Club features a 5K Run/Walk, closed-course street bike racing for adults and kids, and a Cross Track Criterium for adults. Children will also love the bike rodeo with cycling agility and safety challenges, and a festival fun area with games, crafts and other activities.
Pricing: Event admission is free.  Races are free for children and $10.00-$25.00 for adults. (Parent/Guardian consent is required for youth 17 and under to participate in bike races - see website linked above for details.)

When/Where: Saturday from 10:00am until 7:00pm (music will last until 11:00pm) in .
Why Go:  Along with the great festival food line-up and music line-up (with local favorites Drivin’ N’ Cryin’ headlining), there’s something for the whole family at this neighborhood festival.  Your kids will enjoy this festival children’s area and you will enjoy browsing the open air artist market in this shaded park.  And adults, don’t miss the Tour of Homes benefiting the Kirkwood Neighbors Organization - or if you’re a runner, the 5K on Saturday morning.
Pricing: Admission to the festival is free.

When/Where: Saturday from 10:30am to 4:30pm at the . 
Why Go:  It’s a short trip to Midtown to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Margaret Mitchell’s Gone With the Wind.  Enjoy a guided tour of the apartment where Mitchell wrote the book,  living history interpreters representing Civil War soldiers, dance clinics featuring popular dances from both the Civil War and Margaret Mitchell’s era, musical performances by The Musselwhite Family Bluegrass Band and other activities and games for kids.
Pricing: Celebration is included with the price of general admission.

When/Where: Saturday from 9:00am to 12:00pm at the . 
Why Go: Celebrate International Migratory Bird Day with free fun for the whole family.  Enjoy a Bird Walk in Fernbank Forest, learn about the importance of native plants for birds, and kids can learn how to use binoculars on the binocular training course.  And if you have time for some creative construction this week, adults and kids can create an original birdhouse and bring it along for entry in the birdhouse contest
Pricing:  Free.

When/Where: Sunday from 9:00am to 12:00pm.  Ride starts at the Grant Park Recreation Center, 537 Park Ave SE, and then heads to the Grant Park Farmers Market.
Why Go:  Atlanta City Councilman Aaron Watson’s Post 2 Office and the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition have organized this Living Smarter Youth Bike Ride for children ages 12-18.  It’s not only safer to ride in a group - it’s fun and terrific exercise for your kids.  The day will begin with a brief safety clinic for riders and all participants must wear a helmet.
Pricing: Free but registration is required. (Open to 30 participants.)
