BE A BIG NERD

Where/When: , 753 Edgewood Ave., Atlanta, Thursday, August 11, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Why go: Meet the authors Aaron Hillegass and Joe Conway, authors of the “Big Nerd Ranch Guide to iOS Programming”, as Big Nerd gives out swag and free drinks to the first 75 folks who show up. Books will be available for sale.

GET YOUR DESIGNS IN FOR THE 3RD ANNUAL BIRDHOUSE SOCIAL

Where/When: Courtyard, 659 Auburn Ave., Atlanta, through Friday, August 12

Why get involved: So here’s the deal: if you want to get in on The Birdhouse Social that’s being held next weekend on Saturday, August 20, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., you still have time to get in on it this week, as it’s not too late – that is, until Friday, August 12. Architecture for Humanity Atlanta is holding its 3rd annual “social” and they’re looking for designs to be submitted, so work hard the rest of this week and get in on this kind of community event.

THE ZOO ISN”T JUST FOR KIDS

Where/When: , 800 Cherokee Ave., Atlanta, Thursday, August 11, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Why go: Spend a night “Wild on the Rocks” at one of the city’s most popular date nights by enjoying after-hours exhibit viewing while you mix and mingle. Reservations include two complimentary beverages, light hors d’oeuvres, special exhibit viewing and theater seating. Program is designed for adults; content may not be suitable for children.

Why go: For more than 15 years, Big Mike Geier’s Elvis Royale show is over-the-top Vegas-style and he is the life of the party! He fronts the 13-piece orchestra, covering Elvis songs, as showgirls dance and even the audience gets in on the action during the grand finale.
