GET OUT: Weekend Planner

This weekend it's up to you: strut it or take a stroll.

Where/When: Omni Hotel at CNN Center, 100 CNN Dr., Atlanta, Sunday, September 18, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why go: There is so much to learn about when planning a wedding – why not see it all at one time? This weekend meet with photographers, venues, florists and more as you narrow down what’s what for your own wedding. The first 100 brides through the door will get a free BRIDE tote bag, and there will be all kinds of other giveaways throughout the day. Sales on dresses, floral and décor examples, along with hair and make up trials, food, cake samples and much more await anxious brides.

GET YOUR STROLL ON IN KIRKWOOD THIS WEEKEND

Where/When: Kirkwood Station, 1963 Hosea L. Williams Dr., Atlanta, Friday, September 16, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Why go: Kirkwood will be rocking Friday night for the Kirkwood Wine Stroll, with many of its businesses participating in this community-wide wine tasting for willing “strollers.” Wines from all over the world will be featured for attendees 21 and older. Enjoy the galleries, shops and restaurants in this happening neighborhood. Each ticket gets you a program and a souvenir wine glass.

“STRUT” IN EAST ATLANTA

Where/When: East Atlanta Village, Flat Shoals Ave/Glenwood Ave, Atlanta, Saturday, September 17, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Why go: With more than 30 local bands playing, a 5K race, Kids Village, classic car display and carnival games, what’s not to love? There will definitely be something for everyone at this community festival, now in its 14th year. BONUS: Proceeds from the event are awarded to East Atlanta non-profit organizations who request funding via grant applications. The neighborhood event is organized and run solely by volunteers, so attend and support your community.

HEAR  HOW “SWEET” A SOUND CAN BE

Where/When: Philips Arena, 1 Philips Dr., NW, Atlanta, Saturday, September 17, 7:30 p.m.

Why go: See seven local choirs compete for up to $16,000 and the chance to perform in the national finale at Verizon’s “How Sweet the Sound” event. Gospel Legends Dorinda Clark Cole, Donald Lawrence and Marvin Sapp are only part of the fun for this night of gospel and praise.

SEE A COOKING DEMO FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Where/When: One Eared Stag, 1029 Edgewood Ave, NE, Atlanta, Sunday, September 18, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Why go: This cooking demonstration by Chef Robert Phelan is being held to benefit the Springvale Park Playground, scheduled to be built in the spring of 2013. There will be wine and hors d’oeuvres served, but feel free to bring the kids. The fundraising goal for the playground project is $100,000, and attendees for this event are encouraged to make checks payable to Friends of Inman Park, with Springvale Park Playground in the memo line, please.
