Get Out: Weekend Planner

See a photography exhibit or attend a beer fest

Where/When: , (the Ford Tent Pavilion) 800 Cherokee Ave., SE, Atlanta, Saturday, October 8, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Why go: This year’s theme is “Saturday Night Live” and it’s suggested you come dressed up as your favorite character from the show. Sponsored by Zoo Atlanta, Six Feet Under and Tin Lizzy’s Cantina, other supporters include: Ziba's Restaurant, Agave Restaurant, Doc Chey's, Republic Social House, and Augustine's. This once-a-neighborhood-potluck event has become an event of the season, now in its 37th year. There will also be a cash bar, live music, a silent auction, and a Miss Mothball Pageant.

SEE “NINE – THE PICTURE SHOW” THIS WEEKEND

Where/When:, 35 Howard St., SE, Atlanta, Saturday, October 8, (show hangs until November 19th) 7 p.m.

Why go: As part of the Atlanta Celebrates Photography month program, this exhibition will showcase the talents of nine photographers, including: Dylan Bailey, Bob Burkhardt, Tania Calderón, Alex Darling, Tresha Glenister, Wes Powell, Zach Rolen, Greg Turco and Rob Simmons. Bonus: Beverages and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Pricing: Free/parking behind the gallery.

 

SHOW YOUR OFFICIAL ATLANTA PRIDE AT A KICKOFF PARTY

Where/When: , 225 Baker St., NW, Atlanta, Friday, October 7, 6:30 p.m.

Why go:  Get in on this large and spectacular cocktail party to kick off Atlanta Pride. DJ Corey Craig and Jay McCracken, along with a special performance by the fabulous Jujubee of RuPaul's Drag Race and Drag U. A special area of the Aquarium will be turned into her private lounge where guests who purchase Lounge tickets will have the opportunity to mingle with Jujubee over drinks and hors d'oeuvres after her performance. The event is part of the 2011 Atlanta Pride Festival and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Atlanta Pride Committee.

Pricing: General admission: $18.00 (to the party) and $25 day of event if available.   

 

ENVISION THE FUTURE OF NON-PROFITS

Where/When: , 357 Edgewood Ave., Atlanta, Saturday, October 8, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Why go: This is a community-building event for non-profits and your ticket price includes light hors d’oeuvres, one drink and more. There will also be giveaways, so check it out if this is your bag.

GET IN ON THE GREAT ATLANTA BEER FEST

Where/When: Turner Field, 755 Hank Aaron Dr., Atlanta, Saturday, October 8, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Why go: Featuring hundreds of different beers, the bulk of the festival will take place in the Grand Entry Plaza and Monument Grove. The games will be free for beer fest patrons in Scout’s Alley and college football will be on at the Chop House, so you won’t miss a thing. There will also be live music on the stage of the Grand Entry Plaza.

Pricing: Advance tickets: $35/Day of tickets: $45.
