Get Out: Planner For Memorial Day Weekend

This weekend, many of us will have a well-deserved three-day weekend.

There's a few things happening around the Patch of note that may be of interest:

FRI-May 25: The presents its current production, "The Waffle Palace: Smothered, Covered and Scattered 24/7/365" at 8 p.m. The production, which runs through June 7, is an homage to the Waffle House chain, where anything can happen at 3 a.m. Tickets are $20 each. , 1083 Austin Ave NE, Atlanta, GA. SAT- May 26: The kicks off at noon with a parade.  Around 3 p.m. more than a dozen popular Caribbean acts will perform and many vendors will sell regional food and display traditional arts and crafts.  Music will also begin flowing around 3:00pm. The parade begins at West Peachtree/Civic Center MARTA Station and head south toward Ralph McGill/Ivan Allen.  The parade ends on Auburn Ave.  Click here for a map. Tickets are $15 each.

SAT-May 26: The is hosting a fundraiser starting at 3 p.m. to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Come out to the Midway in East Atlanta, drink some great beer, sample some awesome Irish Whiskey and listen to some good music…you may even win some cool prizes. The pub, a Readers' Choice 2012 winner for having the best outdoor patio in the Patch will be selling Irishman Whiskey, Red Hare beer, Fat Tire and Jailhouse beer with 100 percent of the profits going to go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Christy Lee Band will play at 4 p.m. A raffle follows at 7:30 p.m.

SAT/SUN-May 26&27: , 477 Flat Shoals Ave. SE, is holding a fundraiser to collect money for the Year of Boulevard initiative — part of District 2 Atlanta City Councilman Kwanzaa Hall's targeted . Hall and the TEDxAtlanta community are working to bring a to the kids of the Boulevard corridor through summer-camp scholarships, internships and entrepreneurial mentoring. It costs an average of $110 to send one child to camp for a week and Urban Cannibals is aims to raise at least that amount. The bodega will have house made Red Velvet and Bodega Bourbon Black Velvet Cupcakes available for $2.50 a piece. In addition, it will have extra Bodega Blondies + Brownies, Honey Crunch Bars, Local Peach Tarts, Carrot Cake Cupcakes, Local Peach + Basil Poundcake, House made Biscuits and more! SUN-May 27: First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ (First Church) will host its 145th Anniversary Celebration at 11 a.m. at 105 Courtland St. This festive and spiritual celebration of history and culture will feature renowned theologian the Rev. Dr. James Alexander Forbes Jr., senior minister Emeritus at Riverside Church in New York and president of the Healing of the Nations Foundation. The Historic First Church building was at the center of the Reconstruction Era and efforts to integrate former slaves into the open society.  Continuing with the traditions, First Church remains a downtown church.

MON-May 28: P’cheen International Bistro & Pub and the soon-to-be-open Bone Lick BBQ are set to host the 6th annual Coan Park Memorial Day BBQ Throwdown, HAMZ n JAMZ. From 2 p.m. to sunset, guests are invited to sample an amazing spread provided by the award-winning crew at P’cheen and their new BBQ incarnate, Bone Lick BBQ. MON-May 28: Atlanta District 1 Councilwoman Carla Smith will dedicate the first free Neighborhood Electric Vehicle Charging Station at 11 a.m., 512 Kelly St. SE. Hosted at the home of U.S. Army Captain Jules Toraya, the charging station honors the memory of those killed in Operations Iraqi Freedom, New Dawn and Enduring Freedom. There will be remarks from City of Atlanta Director of Sustainability Denise Quarles and Clean Cities Atlanta Executive Director Don Francis.  Veterans groups and the EV Club of the South will be attending.  Atlanta Gas Light will demonstrate a new compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling station available for home rental for CNG vehicles.  Toraya, who also works in the city’s Office of Sustainability, has taken on a personal mission to help returning veterans find careers in the new green economy.
